MachineBuilder Simulation Gets Projects Up and Running in One Day

MachineWorks Limited, supplier of a leading toolkit for CNC simulation and verification, has announced the release of its latest version, MachineWorks v6.5 including the new MachineWorks MachineBuilder, which can speed up and simplify the whole integration process.

The MachineBuilder is a quick-start tool that helps integrate the MachineWorks libraries. Furthermore, MachineWorks v6.5 sees the introduction of a file format fully describing a machine tool that can be shared and standardised. Using the file format in combination with the MachineWorks MachineBuilder, it is possible to create an application that simulates a machine in as little as one day.

MachineWorks MachineBuilder allows the user to quickly develop their own application, with its own unique look and feel that can sit either on the controller or a standalone PC. However MachineWorks MachineBuilder is not only about building models, "The beauty of this product is that you still get all MachineWorks functions in an easier-to-use format", says Sales & Marketing Director of MachineWorks, Mike Nicholson. "If you want to create more complex applications and expose more functionality, MachineWorks will be with you every step of the way to make sure you get the maximum performance from your application."

Simulating the job on the machine in real time is in great demand because it allows operators to have a visual check of what's happening at any time at the machine. This is why MachineWorks has put a lot of effort into achieving faster 5-axis cuts. Other enhancements within MachineWorks’ v6.5 that have had a warm welcome by our partners are more stable use of algorithms, simpler programming of full machine simulation and wider support of complex machining.

Since OKUMA created its collision avoidance system using MachineWorks engines we are seeing more and more embedded simulation. DMG’s Virtual Machine integrates geometry, kinematics and dynamics of real DMG machines as well as CNC and PLC functions in one continuous process chain. "If you visited EMO, you probably saw DMG’s Virtual Machine simulation", says Mike Nicholson. "DMG takes advantage of MachineWorks’ true- solid modelling engine and can represent complex multi-tasking machines with integrated material removal."
